In the new global economy, innovative techniques have a potential to shorten and accelerate the new product development process. This has become a necessity for product designers wanting to keep pace with changes in the marketplace.
One of these technologies include the use of immersive virtual reality. Despite the fact that immersive technologies have been widely researched, accepted and employed across various industries such as engineering and automotive design, there is limited research on the application of immersive technologies for small-scale products in design-based companies, and particularly for design education.
For this research, the data collection and analysis process will comprise of scenarios in both education and practice through three stages: exploration, in-depth research, and co-design and evaluation. The study will investigate aspects of design thinking, product design and the integration of immersive virtual reality technologies.
