The Thai OTOP (One Tumbon – Tumbon means subdistrict, One Product) policy was aimed at developing the local economy through local products using local resources. The current top- down approach was implemented without a clear sustainable plan as it focuses on the economy rather than the community’s endogenous structure.
This research has identified an opportunity for a bottom-up approach by introducing participatory design in value co- creation where local voices can be heard and efforts integrated at a strategic level to make this system relevant for local needs. The research also uses participatory design and service design to support collaboration among stakeholders through social capital and community building activities.
