Cardiovascular disease (CVD) refers to a group of conditions which affect the heart and blood vessels, causing heart attacks and strokes. It is the number 1 cause of death globally, causing around 31% of deaths. The risk factors are; smoking, lack of exercise, diet, obesity, age, family history and hypertension, with hypertension being a cause in half of strokes and heart attacks in the UK. This project aims to create a device that acts as an alarm system in the event of a stroke or heart attack and empower the user to make changes and reduce their risk of progression of the disease. The outcome is a device that monitors heart rate, blood pressure and core body temperature, with a mobile app which will educate the user, allowing them to be more proactive in managing their condition.
