Contingency management (CM) is a highly effective therapy for treating substance addiction; patients are incrementally rewarded for each week they are abstinent. The difficulty in implementing CM lies in the service paying its users as part of the therapy. At present the financial resources that substance addiction services have available from the NHS are limited. As such, to treat the population of 170,000 regular users of cocaine this new therapy needs to exist outside of regular funding channels. This service design consists of two halves; a meal preparation business selling meals to the public to generate revenue, and the CMT service for cocaine addicts seeking treatment. The weekly rewards are provided to service users by having their meals prepared each week they test negative. This provides effective treatment for cocaine addiction as well as the lifestyle benefits of a meal preparation service.
