Winner of the 'Most Disruptive Project' award by Made in Brunel.
The main aim of the project was to reduce the number of drinking related incidents on the road in a way that would also prevent car thefts and uninsured drivers. A change in EU legislation means all cars must be fitted with a breathalyser by 2022, as this year saw a 7% rise on alcohol related road accidents: the highest level since 2012. Alcotect uses Biometric and Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) verification before allowing the user to enter their car through the use of a lip print scanner and alcohol sensor, preventing drivers from accessing the vehicle without the registered biometrics and a legal BAC reading. The key can be personalised to users’ preferences through the selection of coloured inserts and options for the lock state progress displayed on the LCD.
