The Alorem toothbrush doses allergy therapy while the patient brushes their teeth. The therapy is a personalised allergen formulation, slowly desensitising the patient’s immune system from reacting to the allergy in the future, a treatment known as allergy immunotherapy. The allergy immunotherapy is contained within the toothbrush head and is dispensed by a diaphragm pump connected to a piezoelectric driver accurately controlling the release of the therapy. The pump is actuated by an accelerometer and infra-red sensors, so delivering doses at effective locations within the mouth. Aligning the treatment to brushing teeth helps to make the task habitual, therefore helping to maintain long term adherence which is needed for long term effectiveness of allergy immunotherapy. The brush collects data from each brushing session to ensure that treatment is being administered correctly, with problems areas highlighted within the app.
