Current indoor building materials pose many problems to the occupants of the indoor environment. These materials contribute heavily to poor indoor air quality through the emission of VOCs (volatile organic compounds). They also combine toxic chemicals and materials from a highly unsustainable source and manufacturing process, causing considerable environmental impact. Ora utilises the health, environmental and aesthetic benefits of the seaweed organism to create a versatile material application in the indoor environment. The material is solvent free, emits zero VOCs and is environmentally responsible, creating a superior alternative to current building materials. It is made up of sSeaweed, an eco-friendly/non-toxic binder and sealant.Through bringing nature indoors, Ora engages with occupants on a biophilic and holistic level, thus improving human-nature relationships and aiming to enlighten attitudes towards a greener approach in the built environment.
