This Place In Time is a decentralised art exhibition that utilises Brunel University’s rich history to improve the campus experience. The exhibition features a series of then-and-now photomontages, blending Brunel past and Brunel present into a single image. Images are displayed across campus as large scale floor stickers in the places they were originally taken. This decentralised layout means that it will be seen by almost all campus users, rather than just those who would seek it. This format also allows the viewer to stand in the shoes of the photographer and reimagine the space around them with a new depth of understanding.
The exhibition is not solely artwork based however. Each image has a story, and the physical, stumbled-upon artefacts encourage the user to discover more with the accompanying web-app. This includes additional research and archival material for each image, as well as an exhibition map.
