Winner of the 'Best App-Assisted Project' award by Made in Brunel.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common infections during pregnancy and are the leading cause of obstetrical ward admissions. They can lead to serious complications like premature birth and perinatal death. Whilst antibiotics are the standard treatment, overuse can contribute to antimicrobial resistance and affect foetal development.
Preventative techniques are the best option to reduce incidences of UTIs and to avoid antibiotics in pregnancy. Using a natural, holistic approach, veda can bring reassurance and empower women to take control of their intimate health during pregnancy. veda uses a colour indicating material embedded into discreet pH inserts. By identifying potentially harmful environments through a colour change, veda tracks vaginal pH and paired with recommended hygiene techniques, assists in preventing urinary and vaginal infections. The system consists of a reusable pregnancy panty-liner, pH colour inserts and an assistive app.
