It is widely accepted that learning a musical instrument as a child has a diverse range of benefits. However, all too often it is a privilege only available to those who can afford it. Celli aims to change this. Consideration of modern materials and manufacturing techniques from the beginning of the design process allows drastic cost reductions while maintaining sound quality. It also allows Celli to be adjustable, and to grow with a child all through their musical education.
Combined with the improved hardiness of the instrument, these cost and flexibility benefits are ideal for beleaguered music services, and provide great opportunities for inclusive group teaching. The construction of several prototypes has enabled feasibility testing of new design approaches, and thorough consultations with industry professionals ensures that Celli addresses the needs of students and educators while preserving the cello’s voice and soul.
